Order Network eXchange (onX)
Order Network eXchange (onX) is an open standard for commerce operations that defines a common schema for orders, so AI agents and systems can work across different order management and fulfillment tools.
Definition
Order Network eXchange (onX) is an open standard for commerce operations, governed by the Commerce Operations Foundation, a vendor-neutral nonprofit launched in 2025. It defines a common schema for orders, including IDs, status, line items and consumer information, so AI agents and systems can work with orders the same way, whichever order management or fulfillment tool holds them.
Why onX exists
Every OMS, WMS and commerce tool describes orders differently, which would mean a separate integration per system for every AI agent. With onX, each company builds one adapter that translates its own data model into the shared onX schema.
onX vs. MCP
onX builds on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). A company hosts an MCP server with its onX adapter, which translates incoming requests and returns data in onX format. In short: MCP defines how agents connect, onX defines what an order looks like.
onX at fulfillmenttools
fulfillmenttools is a member of the Commerce Operations Foundation and supports onX through the fulfillmenttools MCP Server, so agents and external systems can manage orders through one standardized interface instead of proprietary APIs. More details are available in the official onX specification.
